Messer Story: Open to new ways

Bad Soden, Germany. - In the anniversary year 2018 - from now on until December - we will tell the exciting story of the Messer family business.

The production of acetylene with calcium carbide and water is not entirely harmless. Adolf Messer's acetylene devices are so well received by customers because they are designed for easy and safe handling. Adolf Messer received his first patents in 1902 and 1903 for two safety devices, a "deaerator tube for acetylene developers" and a "device for safe insertion of carbide containers under the developer bell". An acetylene lamp adorns the industrial gas museum of Messer Group in Bad Soden.

Electric light and incandescent gas replaced acetylene lighting in the early 20th century. Adolf Messer has to act. In autogenous welding, a new, emerging technology, he finds a promising alternative to acetylene lighting. Around 1902 he started to develop devices for autogenous welding and cutting. Adolf Messer is divorcing itself from the acetylene lighting business and from 1906 focuses on the production of autogenous welding and cutting equipment. In the same year he changes company name to Messer & Cie..
